Well, I found a nifty little tool for scraping the varnish off of the wooden floorboards last night. It uses a blade, so once the gluey patch is drenched in parafine and left for a few minutes it scrapes off quite easily, needless to say with my sister and her kids visiting and doing all this manual labour, it was a late night. What didn't help was playing the musical beds with the kids who are in a habit of waking up in the middle of the night.
